Frequently Asked Questions

Eavestroughs, commonly known as gutters, are an essential component of any home’s roofing system. They are responsible for diverting rainwater away from the roof and the foundation of the house. Over time, gutters can become damaged, clogged, or deteriorated, which can cause water to leak or overflow, leading to costly repairs. It’s essential to know when to replace or repair gutters to ensure that your home remains protected from water damage.

Here are some signs to look out for to determine if your eavestrough needs replacement or repair:

  1. Visible damage: If you see cracks, holes, or dents in your gutters, it’s a clear indication that your gutters need repair or replacement. Small holes or cracks can be patched up with sealant or patch kits, but if the damage is significant, you may need to replace the entire section or the entire gutter system.
  2. Sagging gutters: If you notice that your gutters are sagging or pulling away from the roofline, it could be a sign that the gutter hangers or brackets are failing, or the gutter is too heavy with debris. In this case, you may need to replace the hangers or brackets or clean the gutters to reduce their weight.
  3. Rust: Rusty gutters are a clear indication that they need replacement. If you see rust on your gutters, it’s an indication that the gutter material has started to corrode, which can lead to cracks, leaks, and other damages.
  4. Water damage: If you notice water damage on your walls, basement, or foundation, it’s a sign that your gutters are not doing their job. It’s crucial to investigate the source of the water damage to determine if the gutters are clogged, leaking, or not properly installed. If it’s a simple clog, cleaning the gutters can fix the issue. But if the problem is significant, you may need to replace the gutters entirely.
  5. Age: Gutters have a lifespan of about 20-25 years, depending on the material and maintenance. If your gutters are nearing the end of their lifespan, it’s best to consider replacement to avoid future damage.

If you notice any of these signs, it’s essential to take action immediately. Delaying repairs or replacement can cause further damage to your home, leading to costly repairs. Regular maintenance and inspection can help prolong the life of your gutters and prevent any issues from occurring.

In conclusion, identifying whether your eavestrough needs replacement or repair can save you a lot of time and money. Always keep an eye out for any visible damage, sagging gutters, rust, water damage, or the age of the gutters. If you notice any of these signs, it’s crucial to take action immediately to ensure that your home remains protected from water damage.

When it comes to replacing eavestroughs, homeowners are often confused about whether they need to replace their soffit and fascia as well. While it may seem like an unnecessary expense, there are several factors that should be taken into consideration before making a decision.

What are Soffits and Fascia?

Soffits are the underside of the roof overhang and are typically made of wood, aluminum or vinyl. Fascia, on the other hand, is a board that runs along the roof line and is typically made of wood or aluminum. Both of these components are critical to the overall functionality and appearance of the roof.

Why Should Soffits and Fascia be Replaced?

There are several reasons why soffits and fascia may need to be replaced when eavestroughs are being replaced. Firstly, if the eavestroughs are old or damaged, it’s likely that the soffits and fascia have also sustained damage over time. Secondly, if the new eavestroughs are of a different size than the old ones, the soffits and fascia may need to be replaced in order to accommodate the new size.

Another reason to consider replacing soffits and fascia is to improve the overall appearance of your home. Old or damaged soffits and fascia can make your home look unkempt, while new ones can give it a fresh, updated look.

In addition to these aesthetic reasons, replacing soffits and fascia can also improve the energy efficiency of your home. Old or damaged soffits and fascia can allow air to escape, which can lead to higher heating and cooling bills. New soffits and fascia can help to keep your home’s temperature regulated, reducing your energy bills in the process.

How to Determine if Soffits and Fascia Need to be Replaced

The best way to determine whether or not your soffits and fascia need to be replaced is to have a professional inspection done. A professional roofer will be able to identify any damage or wear and tear that may have occurred over time and recommend the best course of action.

If your eavestroughs are being replaced, it’s also a good idea to consider replacing your soffits and fascia at the same time. This can save you money in the long run by avoiding the need for separate repairs or replacements down the road.

In conclusion, while it may seem like an unnecessary expense, replacing soffits and fascia when replacing eavestroughs can have a number of benefits. From improving the appearance of your home to increasing its energy efficiency, there are several reasons why it’s worth considering this upgrade. To determine if your soffits and fascia need to be replaced, it’s best to consult with a professionals like us who can assess the condition of your home and make recommendations accordingly.
